IOH physiotherapist, Leia Sakari-Nati, has recently tailored a new training program which demonstrates the importance of stretching. This program educates and encourages the trainees to stretch in a way that improves their well-being by developing/maintaining joint and muscle flexibility, restoring spinal alignment and increasing blood and oxygen flow.
The stretching training took place at BIS Industrial Logistics. This service was customised by Leia, focusing on the specific (larger) muscle groups used by the employees of BIS Industrial. The one hour training session included a visual presentation, handouts to be used at home and work and was interactive with the trainees performing the stretches and receiving personalised feedback ensuring correct technique.
Tailoring this training session to suit BIS Industrial employees ensured the information provided by our staff best suited the workplace conditions. IOH also provided generic stretching sheets which could be distributed to all employees and displayed in the premises of BIS Industrial. Paul Aquilina, the Customer Services Coordinator at BIS stated, “Leia was excellent with her communication and demonstration skills. She kept the class interested and influenced participation. In general it was a good, informative and enjoyable training session” (2010).
Evaluations from the stretching session revealed each individual was satisfied with the information provided. 90% of participants stated that the training will make them change their stretching practices and were aware of the importance of and reasons to stretch and how this affects their work practices.
The Stretching information session is just another way IOH continues to tailor training in order for organisations to get the most out of our courses.
Please contact Stephen Lum, Manager of OHS / Risk Services to discuss how we can provide a training course to suit your organisation.
